As part of the German government's artificial intelligence (AI) strategy, the successful Saxon competence center ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig (Center for Scalable Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence) is being expanded into a leading German AI competence center for Big Data and Artificial Intelligence (AI). At the Center for Interdisciplinary Digital Sciences (CIDS), the Department for Scalable Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence (ScaDS.AI Dresden) offers two full-time positions as

Research Associate / PhD Student (m/f/x)

(subject to personal qualification, employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)

starting November 1, 2026. The positions are limited to two years, with the option of extension. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG). A shorter contract term is possible by arrangement. The positions aim at obtaining further academic qualification. Professional assignment: Chair of Scalable Software Architectures for Data Analytics (Prof. Dr. Michael Färber)

Research areas: Natural Language Processing, Large Language Models, Knowledge Graphs, and related fields (e.g., Graph Machine Learning)

Tasks:

scientific research in at least one of the above-mentioned research areas

collaboration in national and international research projects, possibly with an industrial collaboration

participation in teaching (e. g., seminars; no basic lectures)

presentation and publication of research results in top-tier conferences/journals

co-supervision of Bachelor’s/Master’s students in small projects or theses

assist with proposal writing for research funding, if applicable

university degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Mathematics, Advanced Information Science and Engineering, or a related field

prior research experience (publications, theses, projects) in the above-mentioned research areas is a strong plus

strong interest in foundational research in the above-mentioned research areas

excellent programming skills (experience with deep learning frameworks preferred)

good written and spoken English skills

highly motivated and able to work independently and in teams
