Job Summary
This hands-on internship trains you in two areas: machinery condition monitoring (vibration measurement and thermal imaging) and marine HVAC servicing. You will work alongside our senior engineers onboard vessels, preparing you for a full-time Technician role.
Responsibilities
Carry out vibration measurements on marine machinery such as pumps, motors, fans, compressors and blowers using handheld vibration analysers and thermal instruments
Conduct thermal imaging (infrared) surveys of electrical panels, switchboards, motors and mechanical equipment onboard vessels
Record measurement data accurately, follow set measurement points and routes, and upload readings for engineer review
Assist senior engineers in interpreting vibration and thermal readings to identify developing faults
Assist in servicing and repairing marine air-conditioning, refrigeration, and ventilation systems onboard vessels
Service compressors, fan motors, pumps, air handling units (AHUs), and fan coil units (FCUs) under supervision
Perform leak testing, nitrogen pressure testing, vacuuming, and refrigerant charging to ensure system integrity
Conduct basic electrical checks including continuity, insulation resistance, voltage, and current measurements
Read and interpret wiring diagrams and control schematics to support troubleshooting and repairs
Prepare tools, instruments, and service reports accurately to support job completion and documentation
Follow safe working practices onboard vessels, including safe procedures when working near live electrical panels and running machinery
Preferred competencies and qualifications
Minimum Nitec, Higher Nitec, or Diploma in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Marine, Facility Technology, or Air-Con & Refrigeration, or currently pursuing one
Comfortable using handheld measuring instruments and recording data carefully. Accurate readings matter more than speed
