Role Summary
The HRSG Mechanical Commissioning Engineer will be responsible for the pre-commissioning, commissioning, start-up, testing and handover of Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG), water-steam-cycle and associated mechanical systems for Combined Cycle Gas Turbine projects.
The engineer will serve as the commissioning system owner and work closely with engineering, instrumentation and control teams to ensure that the assigned systems are commissioned safely and in accordance with approved engineering and quality documentation.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and execute system cleaning, flushing, blow-out and restoration activities for HRSGs, water-steam-cycle equipment and associated mechanical systems.
Perform HRSG and mechanical-system start-up in manual and automated control modes.
Support system adjustment and tuning during part-load and base-load operation.
Prepare and execute HRSG functional tests, performance tests and reliability runs.
Review Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), functional specifications and other engineering documents.
Verify installed systems against approved engineering documentation and report discrepancies, technical issues and recommendations to the engineering team.
Support the setting, calibration and functional testing of valves and instrumentation, including pressure and temperature transmitters, vibration detectors and position switches.
Perform logic, interlock and safety-function checks in coordination with Instrumentation and Control Systems engineers.
Conduct pump testing, including rotation-direction checks and safety-system tests.
Support steam-bypass operations until the steam achieves the required purity.
Place systems into the required operating configuration and confirm system readiness before first fire.
Ensure that vacuum-integrity assessment requirements are followed in accordance with applicable quality documentation.
Maintain assigned systems during the commissioning and initial operating periods, including lubrication, leak rectification, filter cleaning, preservation and preventive-maintenance activities.
Organise and maintain the mechanical spare parts and consumables required for commissioning, including soft goods and filters.
Coordinate system functional checks, commissioning activities and handover with relevant engineering and project teams.
Provide operating and maintenance support and training to customers and plant-operation teams.
Mandatory Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline is essential
A minimum of 10 years of experience in the commissioning, start-up and testing of HRSGs, including significant experience with HA-powered Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) projects, is essential
Experience in the cleaning, preservation and preventive-maintenance requirements of HRSG mechanical equipment and instrumentation is essential
Additional Technical Knowledge
Strong knowledge of HRSG and water-steam-cycle system cleaning, flushing, blow-out, restoration and commissioning requirements.
Practical knowledge of mechanical equipment, valves, pumps, field instrumentation, P&IDs and commissioning documentation.
Ability to identify system discrepancies, troubleshoot commissioning issues and coordinate technical resolutions with engineering and control-system teams.
