Purpose and Key Accountabilities

The Coal and FRM (Iron Ore) Divisions of RtMI serve as the headquarter functions for Mitsubishi Corporation Tokyo’s Coal and FRM (Iron Ore) trading businesses under the lead of Global Head for both divisions. The divisions manage global trading activities by leveraging on the support from offices across multiple regions such Japan (RtMJ), China (SSL), America (RtMA), Europe (RtME), India (RtMB) and other markets. The Division operates a global trading portfolio covering physical commodity trading, as well as various value-added services such as logistic solutions, derivative transactions to global counterparties. Given the scale and complexity of such activities, effective governance, risk management and process oversight are critical to maintaining operational integrity and supporting business performance.

The Trade Control function plays a key role in establishing and maintaining risk management frameworks, by supporting Global head of both divisions in monitoring trading performance and risk exposures, supporting effective decision-making by management and other stakeholders.

The Senior Officer is responsible for coordinating with traders, members in corporate functions, regional offices and MC Tokyo to support risk and Profit and Loss (P&L) monitoring, governance, reporting and business process management. The role contributes to the continuous enhancement of the Division’s control environment while ensuring alignment with internal policies, regulatory requirements and global business objectives.

Job Responsibilities

1. Global Trading Portfolio, P&L and Risk Reporting (30%)

  • Prepare and review daily P&L and risk position reports for the Division’s global trading portfolio
  • Provide analysis and reporting support to book owners, Global head and Management to facilitate informed decision-making.
  • Respond to enquiries relating to trading performance, risk exposures and reporting data from internal stakeholders, including MC Tokyo and risk management team.

2. Risk Management Framework Enhancement (20%)

  • Maintain and continuously improve the Division’s risk management framework, governance structure and control of the environment.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen risk monitoring, reporting and escalation processes.
  • Support implementation of risk management initiatives and enhancements endorsed by global head and other relevant internal stakeholders.

3. Business Process Management (20%)

  • Review and improve operational processes to ensure efficient and compliant business operations
  • Act as a reviewer and control point for designated operational processes.
  • Work closely with functional departments to maintain an effective internal control environment.
  • Support alignment of the Division’s processes and controls with corporate governance requirements and internal policies with MC Tokyo’s standard in Internal Control framework.

4. Trade Limits and Corporate Application Management (20%)

  • Coordinate applications and approvals relating to business limits and risk governance matters including  credit lines, parental guarantees and trading risk limits.
  • Prepare supporting documentation and management submission for internal approval processes.
  • Monitor approved limits and facilitate timely reporting and escalation where necessary.
  • Support compliance with approved frameworks and governance requirements across the Division.

5. Strategy Planning and Performance Monitoring (10%)

  • Support the development and monitoring of Division KPIs and business objectives. – Monitor progress against strategic initiatives and risk management objectives. – Prepare reports and management materials for discussions with internal and regional stakeholders. – Contribute to continuous improvement iniatives relating to risk management and operational effectiveness.

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in commodities trading, mining or relevant industry.
  • Prior experience in metals trading with familiarity in Iron Ore and/or Coal commodity will be advantageous

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • At least a bachelor’s degree in Business and Finance, Statistics, Data Analytics or a related discipline from a recognized University.
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to interpret P&L, risk exposures and operational data.
  • Experience in preparing management reports and presentations for senior stakeholders.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint and other business productivity tools.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders across multiple regions and functions.
  • Business level proficiency in both English and Japanese is required. Japanese language is required for communication with MC Tokyo and the need to review, prepare and discuss reports, explain operational matters and management materials in Japanese for this role.
