The Scope:

The Assistant Chief Engineer will assist in overseeing the overall operation, maintenance, safety, and reliability of the hotel's building, engineering systems, equipment, and facilities. This role supports the Chief Engineer in ensuring the efficient execution of preventive and corrective maintenance programmes, statutory compliance, engineering projects, and contractor management while maintaining minimal disruption to hotel operations and delivering an exceptional guest experience.

The Assistant Chief Engineer will provide technical guidance to the Engineering team, support staff development, and work closely with all hotel departments to maintain the property to high operational and safety standards.

Job Responsibilities:

Assist the Chief Engineer in managing the day-to-day operations of the Engineering Department to ensure hotel facilities, equipment, and engineering systems are maintained to the required standards.

Supervise, guide, and support the Engineering team to ensure efficient manpower utilisation, productivity, and service delivery.

Coordinate and monitor preventive and corrective maintenance programmes to ensure the reliability and functionality of hotel facilities and minimise operational downtime.

Conduct regular inspections of hotel facilities and engineering systems, identify maintenance requirements, and recommend improvement measures.

Respond promptly to engineering issues, guest requests, and emergency situations to minimise disruption and maintain guest satisfaction.

Assist in developing and implementing engineering policies, procedures, and standards to ensure safe, efficient, and consistent operations.

Support the planning and execution of maintenance, renovation, refurbishment, and CAPEX projects within approved budgets and timelines.

Coordinate and supervise contractors, consultants, and suppliers to ensure works are carried out safely, efficiently, and according to required standards.

Ensure compliance with all applicable statutory, fire safety, environmental, and workplace safety regulations.

Assist in monitoring departmental expenses, controlling costs, and managing resources effectively.

Support the implementation of energy, water, and sustainability initiatives to improve operational efficiency and reduce utility consumption.

Work closely with Management and other hotel departments to support seamless hotel operations and enhance the property's condition and guest experience.

Act on behalf of the Chief Engineer during his/her absence as required.

Perform any other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Management.

Qualifications

Diploma or Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Building Services Engineering, or a related field.

Experience:

Minimum 3 years of engineering experience in the hospitality industry, including supervisory experience.

Experience in hotel maintenance operations, contractor management, and engineering project coordination.

Exposure to budgeting, cost control, energy management, and CAPEX projects will be an advantage.
