Job Summary:
As a Technical Program Engineer, you will be responsible for developing and supporting fiber-optic connectivity solutions for DC projects. You will act as AFL's technical face to our customers to understand their needs. You will also work with installation partners and internal teams to recommend suitable solutions based on AFL’s suite of DC Connectivity products, prepare bill-of-materials/technical documentation and support deployment. The role also includes product training, technical troubleshooting and project coordination to ensure goals and timelines are met.
Key Responsibilities:
Understand building drawing/layouts, network architecture, fiber routes, port quantities and installation constraints, and translate them into feasible end-to-end fiber connectivity solutions.
Prepare/Review/Maintain solution documentation such as connectivity guides, bills of materials, product configurations, cable drawings, technical presentations, installation guides and training materials.
Prepare and cross-check material quantity calculations for data center deployments, including high-fiber-count cables, trunks, patch cords, panels, cassettes, adapters, breakout kits, splice accessories and operational spares.
Work with Design Engineering and Product Management to define new or modified products when standard offerings do not meet density, routing, rack-space or pathway requirements.
Support prototype builds, mock-ups, installation trials and technical validation, including link-loss-budget reviews and test plans for new connectivity arrangements.
Coordinate with Supply Chain to assess manufacturability challenges, production capability, material availability, lead time and technically acceptable alternatives.
Plan and deliver technical training for customers and installation partners on fiber handling, cable management, panel and cassette installation, connector cleaning, splicing, testing and troubleshooting.
Investigate fiber-performance and installation issues using proper fault isolation method and test equipment and coordinate corrective actions
Monitor developments in data center architecture, AI/GPU connectivity, high-density fiber management, multifiber connectors, testing technologies and competing solutions, and share relevant findings internally.
Support Commercial/Sales teams with technical proposals, demonstrations and enquiries.
Main Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Engineering, Telecommunications, Information Technology or a related technical discipline. Candidates with strong relevant practical experience may also be considered.
At least 3 years of experience in fiber-optic connectivity, data center infrastructure, telecommunications engineering or related field.
Conversant in both English & Mandarin (spoken and written)
Practical knowledge of optical fiber cables, fiber management solutions and common data center fiber-management practices.
Understanding of common optical-fiber connector types (e.g. LC, MPO/MTP) and cable assembly types (e.g. fanout, patch-cords, pigtail)
Working knowledge of fiber installation practices, including cable handling, bend-radius control, strain relief, routing, connector inspection and cleaning, single-fiber or ribbon splicing, and workmanship review.
Working knowledge of fiber testing and troubleshooting using tools such as light source/power meter, OTDR and VFL, including interpretation of insertion-loss results and basic fault-isolation evidence.
Ability to read and review data center layouts, fiber schematics, cable schedules, connectivity drawings and product technical documentation.
Ability to develop and validate bills of materials and connectivity schedules from project requirements, drawings, rack or port quantities and architecture assumptions.
Ability to prepare clear technical documentation, presentations, installation guides and training materials using common Microsoft Office applications.
Experience in the following areas will be added advantage: (1) Hyperscale, Colocation, AI/GPU or other high-density data center deployments, (2) High-fiber-count cables, (3) MPO/MMC connectivity, patching or shuffle systems
