Job Summary: PayPal is seeking an experienced financial regulatory attorney to expertly guide PayPal in LATAM and Canada on its mission to remain one of the most trusted brands. Leveraging vision and a pragmatic approach, the Legal Director will set the overall direction for the financial regulatory legal team in LATAM and Canada. The Legal Director will work closely with legal colleagues who support PayPal in more than 200 markets around the world as part of a diverse legal team on regulatory matters. This position is based in Mexico City and will report to the Vice President, Legal Financial Regulation. Job Description: Essential Responsibilities: Provide strategic legal advice and support to senior management, influencing business strategy an decision making. Anticipate regulatory and legal risks, and proactively design strategies to manage them. Perform legal and regulatory compliance risk assessments, propose creative solutions where applicable, and help advance business objectives. Manage escalations, collaborate across other teams and develop solutions to enable business partners to achieve their goals. Develop a strong rapport and working relationship with business counterparts across the enterprise to help drive the delivery of effective legal services. Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations, leading the adoption of cutting-edge legal technologies and best practices. Manage legal risks and safeguard PayPal's legal interests, developing forward-looking risk management strategies. Provide key inputs as an industry leader and expert, staying ahead of legal trends and influencing industry standards. Minimum Qualifications: 10+ years relevant experience and a Juris doctorate degree OR Any equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional Responsibilities & Preferred Qualifications: Responsibilities: Leading and developing the LATAM & Canada financial regulatory legal team by enabling the team to focus on critical matters for the business, while efficiently and effectively supporting routine business matters. Providing direct regulatory legal advice for operations in Mexico while coordinating and supervising wider regulatory legal work across the the Americas (excluding the U.S.). Supporting strong relationships with LATAM regulators, including the Central Bank of Mexico (BANXICO), the National Banking and Securities Commission of Mexico (CNBV), the National Anti-Monopoly Commission (CNA). Maintaining corporate governance for PayPal LATAM entities. Monitoring and advising on new and emerging legal and regulatory developments impacting Mexico operations, including identifying trends and potential impacts on business activities. Collaborating with legal and business colleagues across PayPal globally on the resolution of regulatory legal issues. Partnering with Compliance and Risk Management on AML/CTF or other compliance matters. Providing financial regulatory legal advice in support of existing operations and business expansion opportunities for other markets, as necessary. Skills & Experience: Candidates for this position should be able to demonstrate experience and competence with the following. Deep, demonstrable financial services regulatory and contract negotiation skills and expertise, with an emphasis on payments laws, including the Mexican Fintech Law and the Payment Network Rules and regulations. Experience with oversight by and engagement with the CNBV, BANXICO and other regulators in LATAM. Familiarity with, and strong interest in, financial services technology, mobile and
