Stellenbeschreibung

Job Purpose

To develop and execute SAMH's communications and media strategy, building the organisation's public profile, advancing mental health awareness and managing SAMH's relationships with media, stakeholders and the public across all channels.

Job Responsibilities

A). Communications Strategy & Content

Develop and implement SAMH's annual communications plan in alignment with organisational priorities and the Cluster Head, Engagement's strategic direction.

Lead the development of compelling content across all communications channels, including press releases, feature articles, op-eds, speeches, annual reports and digital content.

Ensure all external communications are on-brand, accurate and consistent in tone and messaging.

Maintain and periodically refresh SAMH’s corporate templates (decks, letterheads, and collaterals) to ensure brand consistency across all touchpoints.

Develop and maintain SAMH's messaging frameworks on key mental health topics, service offerings and advocacy positions.

Collaborate with the Head of Data, Impact Research, Advocacy & Education to translate research findings and outcome data into accessible public communications.

B). Media Relations

Serve as SAMH's primary media relations contact, managing incoming media enquiries and proactively pitching stories across mainstream, trade and digital media networks to drive broad coverage across all tiers.

Develop and maintain strong relationships with journalists, editors, and media organisations covering health, social services and community affairs

Prepare media spokespeople for interviews, including providing talking points, briefing materials and media training.

Monitor media coverage of SAMH and the broader mental health landscape and provide regular media monitoring reports and timely alerts on sector developments and policy shifts to senior leadership.

Manage SAMH's crisis communications response and timely management of sensitive media situations.

C). Digital & Social Media

Oversee SAMH's digital communications channels, including the website social media platforms and e-newsletters.

Develop and implement SAMH's social media strategy, growing SAMH's digital following and engagement with target audiences.

Ensure SAMH's website is current, user-friendly and accurately reflects the organisation's services and impact.

Monitor digital analytics and use data insights to continuously improve SAMH's digital communications effectiveness.

D). Public Education & Campaigns

Lead the development and delivery of public mental health education campaigns, including World Mental Health Day and other national and international advocacy moments partnering with the Head of Volunteer Management & Events for event logistics and execution.

Develop campaign content, messaging and materials in collaboration with Marketing team and the Head of Data, Impact Research, Advocacy & Education.

Evaluate the reach and effectiveness of public education campaigns and report outcomes to senior leadership.

E). Team Leadership & Administration

Supervise and develop Communications & Media team member, providing guidance, feedback and professional development support.

Manage external agencies, freelancers and production vendors as required.

Manage the Comms enquiry inbox ensuring timely responses, proper triaging and high-quality stakeholder engagement.

Manage communications budget and ensure cost-effective use of resources.

Maintain a centralised repository of records and brand assets to ensure version control and institutional memory.

Qualifications & Experience

Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or a related discipline.

Minimum 6 to 8 years of experience in communications or media relations.

Demonstrated track record in media relations, content development and digital communications.

Strong ability to adapt tone and style for different audiences and channels.

Experience in crisis communications management is preferred.

Strong project management and stakeholder engagement skills.

Experience in a non-profit, healthcare or social service organisation will be an added advantage.
