MARINE SUPERINTENDENT – TANKER
Position Summary
The Marine Superintendent will be responsible for the marine operation, navigational safety, cargo operations, tanker safety and operational readiness of assigned vessels.
The position will ensure that vessels are safely operated in accordance with COLREG, SOLAS, ISM Code, MARPOL, MPA Singapore, Flag State, Class and applicable tanker industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
Provide marine operational oversight for assigned tanker vessels and ensure vessels remain safe, seaworthy and fit for purpose.
Monitor compliance with company SMS procedures relating to navigation, cargo operations, mooring, bunkering and shipboard safety.
Review and monitor vessel passage plans, navigation practices, bridge procedures and navigational risk assessments.
Ensure compliance with COLREG, SOLAS Chapter V, MPA requirements, VTS/STRAITREP requirements and company navigation procedures.
Monitor tanker cargo and bunkering operations, including loading, discharging, ship-to-ship transfer and fuel transfer operations.
Ensure proper implementation of Tanker Safety Management procedures, including cargo checklists, pre-transfer meetings, ship/shore safety checklists and communications.
Monitor mooring and unmooring operations, including mooring arrangements, equipment condition, procedures and risk assessments.
Support and oversee STS and bunkering operations, ensuring compliance with approved procedures, risk assessments, weather limitations and industry best practices.
Conduct regular shipboard inspections and marine audits and follow up deficiencies until satisfactory close-out.
Prepare vessels for and support SIRE 2.0, MPA, PSC, Flag State, Class and terminal inspections.
Monitor vessel readiness for operations, including navigation equipment, GMDSS, lifesaving appliances, firefighting equipment and other marine safety equipment.
Review and follow up marine incidents, near misses, navigational events and operational deficiencies, including root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
Ensure effective implementation of bridge team management, passage planning, toolbox meetings, risk assessments and permit-to-work systems.
Coordinate with Master, Chief Officer, charterers, terminals, agents, pilots, Class, Flag State, MPA, P&I and other marine stakeholders.
Monitor vessel marine performance and operational KPIs, identify recurring operational risks and recommend improvements to management.
Key Qualifications
Master Mariner / Class 1 Deck Officer Certificate of Competency preferred.
Minimum 5–8 years' experience onboard tankers, preferably including experience as Master.
Previous Marine Superintendent / Marine Assurance experience preferred.
Strong knowledge of tanker cargo operations, navigation, mooring and bunkering.
Knowledge of ISM, SOLAS, MARPOL, COLREG and MPA Singapore requirements.
SIRE 2.0 / OCIMF experience highly desirable.
STS / Bunkering experience is an advantage.
Strong leadership, communication and risk-management skills.
