Role Overview
The Performing Arts Manager oversees artistic operations, programming, production logistics, and talent management. This role is responsible for planning performance seasons, directing budgets and production schedules, and coordinating cross-functional teams across rehearsals, venues, and live stagings to maintain high artistic and operational standards.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Artistic Planning & Programme Management
Develop, curate, and implement performance programmes, seasonal schedules, and artistic concepts.
Plan and oversee production timelines from conceptualisation through rehearsals to live execution.
Supervise artistic output and performance quality to ensure presentations align with organizational standards.
Logistics, Venue & Production Coordination
Coordinate rehearsal schedules, venue bookings, stage availability, and technical load-ins.
Liaise directly with artistic directors, technical crews (lighting, sound, staging), venue operators, and front-of-house teams.
Manage stage and operational contingencies during live performances and events.
Ensure all production activities adhere to venue health, safety, and workplace guidelines.
Talent & Staff Supervision
Lead the recruitment, auditioning, onboarding, and scheduling of performers, guest artistes, and production crew.
Conduct regular briefings, monitor artist attendance and punctuality, and facilitate constructive feedback.
Address performer welfare, contracts, and conflict resolution across artistic and technical teams.
Budgeting & Operational Administration
Formulate, allocate, and track production budgets, controlling costs related to talent, staging, venue rental, and equipment.
Negotiate contracts with external vendors, artistes, venues, and service providers.
Prepare operational logs, performance assessments, and financial reports for executive review.
Requirements
Proven background in arts management, theatre/live production, performing arts operations, or entertainment administration.
Demonstrated experience in programme curation, production scheduling, and budget management.
Strong leadership, negotiation, and cross-functional communication skills across artistic and technical disciplines.
Deep practical understanding of stagecraft, production workflows, and venue operations.
Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays in accordance with performance schedules.
